Draft 3

This draft was not any major improvement, the most notable improvement was the change of punctuation going from ‘D.O;P’ to ‘D.O.P’.

But being analytical of the edit there is still lots that needs to be improved such as the POV shot out of the window needs to be smoothened of faded so the jumpiness is not noticeable. Also the font and text could be improved so it fits the thriller genre more.

Deadpool film review

PLOT

Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is a former Special Forces operative who now works as a mercenary. His world comes crashing down when evil scientist Ajax (Ed Skrein) tortures, disfigures and transforms him into Deadpool. The rogue experiment leaves Deadpool with accelerated healing powers and a twisted sense of humor. With help from mutant allies Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Deadpool uses his new skills to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

NARRATIVE

If i was going to apply deadpool to Todorov’s thoery it would look like this:

Equilibrium – Wade Wilson is a mercenary he meets Vanessa who becomes his girlfriend.

Disruption of EqulilbriumWade gets terminal cancer, a mysterious man offers him a cure if he joins a program.

Recognition Of Disruption – Wade joins the program leaving his girlfriend Vanessa, and is put through a series of torturous procedures in an attempt of giving him supernatural powers, which he does indeed gain.

Reparation Of Equilibrium- Wade escapes the institution utilising his newfound hyper regenerative abilities.

Return Of Equilibrium – Wade deals with his disfigurement as a result of his new abilities.

Disruption Of Equilibrium – Vanessa is kidnapped by the same organisation that he escaped from, in particular by a man name Francis.

Recognition Of Disruption- Wade sets out to rescue taking on the alias of ‘Deadpool’.

Reparation  Of Equilibrium- The now named Deadpool hunts down Francis cutting down anyone who stands in his way.

Equilibrium Returns Again – Deadpool saves Vanessa.

This is an odd film in terms of Todorov’s theory because there are 2 staages of it. The return of the equilibrium happens in the middle of the film and then it gets disrupted again and the cylce repeats.

MY OPINION

In my opinion i really liked this film. It is one of the funniest films that i have ever watched. The movie was created by Marvel which is my favourite movie company so i am bound to like it. The film offers comedy with a mix of a good story line and also comedy. The target audience for this film is R but that is realisticly used to mask that it is for adults that havn’t grown up yet lol.

Draft 2

In this version of the edit the new footage was used from our reshoot. This was affective because it made the story easier to understand now that the footage is now more visible and now the actor is portraying the character we wished. Unlike the last shoot.

But there are still elements of improvement such as the typography because it did not capture the feel of the genre like i wanted it to. The rest of the group also agreed with this. After we screen this we will ask for feedback from the class to see if we should use a voice over or not.

Draft 1

This is the first draft for our main task. In the filming of this draft it was notable that we had some huge improvement to make in order for it to be complete. The main change that we knew had to be made was the quality of the footage. The quality was very very bad considering that we were using a relatively high end camera. It was bad quality because of the lighting we were using. We were attempting to replicate the moonlight by using dim lighting in the room but it ended up looking really bad and the quality of the footage was impacted because of it.

In addition to the lighting the length of the footage was also a problem. As the footage only reached 1:28 we knew that we had to add in some extra shots in order for our piece to be successful as the footage had to be a minimum of 2 minutes.

Also because of the quality and the lack of sound i think that the plot of the sequence may be difficult to understand.  Furthermore the actor being hunted does not look scared. This will require us to do a re shoot with a new actor.

The Maze Runner Film review

PLOT

So there’s this kid who wakes up in an elevator with no memory of his past other than the fact that his name is Thomas. When it the elevator doors open, he is pulled into a huge glade by a bunch of teenage boys who alsohave no memories besides what they should be called. They all share a strange vocabulary, a fondness for capitalizing words to make them special, and the same mysterious fate.

Thomas gradually discovers that the Glade (see what they did there? Capitalize it and BOOM, you got yourself a name) is run by two boys, Alby and Newt, who maintain order by enforcing strict rules and keeping all of the boys busy harvesting food and whatnot. This is important because outside the Glade is the Maze, a terrifying labyrinth of high walls covered in ivy that houses strange, lethal creatures known as Grievers. So the boys are stuck trying to stay alive as well as “solving” the Maze by running through it as fast as they can while tracking movements of the walls and trying to find an exit.

Then, a day after Thomas’s arrival, a girl is delivered through the elevator into the Glade. The boys are stunned, perplexed, worried, and perhaps a little excited to have someone who doesn’t smell like day-old socks and Axe body spray (just kidding, geez). However, unlike each of the boys, she shows up mumbling strange prophetic words and then lapses into a coma. To make matters worse, her arrival triggers everything in the Glade to change: the sun disappears, the deliveries of supplies stop coming, and the doors stay open at night which allows the Grievers to pick kids off one-by-one. Oh goodie.

Thomas has a brilliant idea, and figures out that maybe the walls of the Maze aren’t moving for funsies, but that maybe their movements are actually a code. So they do an arts ‘n’ crafts project and discover that the maze is in fact spelling out words. Thomas also discovers that the Cliff that they all thought was just a cliff turns out to be where the Grievers are coming from. If they can come and go through a weird black hole over the edge of a cliff, then maybe so can the boys.
The girl, Teresa, wakes up and tells Thomas that they knew each other before they were put in the Glade and oh, by the way, they can communicate telepathically.

In an act of desperation to get his memory back, Thomas gets himself stung by a Griever and discovers the Griever Hole is indeed an exit. Not only that, the code that the Maze has been spelling out is their ticket to escape.

A large group of them decide to make a run for it, knowing that it could be suicide trying to take on the Grievers but figuring that nothing could be worse than being stuck in the Glade. They succeed, only to find out that what they’ve been doing is an experiment being conducted by the Creators, a group called WICKED, who may or may not be evil. The boys and Teresa then get “rescued” by some kind of rebel group and brought to a safe haven while being told about “the Flare”—an apocalyptic occurrence that killed off half of the world’s population.

NARRATIVE

If i was to apply this film to todorovs theory it would look like this:

1). State of equilibrium – There is a community of young boys in a field ( “The Glade”) where they fend for themselves. They are contempt and used to their routine.
2). A disruption – This is then interrupted by a newcomer called Thomas, who decides to do things differently by going into the forbidden maze
3).A recognition the disorder has occurred – The boys realize Thomas is different and does things in a way he think will help them get out of captivity
4). Attempt to repair the destruction the disruption made – They fight off the Grievers, Thomas let out unintentionally
5). A new equilibrium –  The boys and girl get out of the maze to be saved by a team of officials, that take them away from the dangerous place they once lived in to take them to a new place

MY OPINION

This film was a really good one in my opinion, I think this is the case for me because of the complexity and fantasy style of film. The way they implimented the maze and the creatures inside of it. Also this is the original of this film. There is a sequal and there is a version 3 coming out but by the look of the second one, the origional is the best in my opinion.

Spiderman film review

PLOT

This is a story of Peter Parker who is a nerdy high-schooler. He was orphaned as a child, bullied by jocks, and can’t confess his crush for his stunning neighborhood girl Mary Jane Watson. To say his life is “miserable” is an understatement. But one day while on an excursion to a laboratory a runaway radioactive spider bites him… and his life changes in a way no one could have imagined. Peter acquires a muscle-bound physique, clear vision, ability to cling to surfaces and crawl over walls, shooting webs from his wrist … but the fun isn’t going to last. An eccentric millionaire Norman Osborn administers a performance enhancing drug on himself and his maniacal alter ego Green Goblin emerges. Now Peter Parker has to become Spider-Man and take Green Goblin to the task… or else Goblin will kill him. They come face to face and the war begins in which only one of them will survive at the end.

NARRATIVE

Todorovs Theory of narrative applied to Spider-Man

Equilibrium: Peter Paker, best friend Harry Osborn, love interest Mary-Jane Watson was just a teenager, with slight bullying issues, doing teenager things. Like visiting a genetics lab; with radioactive spiders.

Disruption: After being bitten by a radioactive spider, he gains abilities, making him arrogantand which indirectly cause the death of his Uncle Ben

Recognition: “With Great Power Comes GreatResponsibility” He decides to use his new foundpowers to help others as the iconic “Spiderman”

Attempt t0 repair equilibrium : Meanwhile, Norman Osbornaka “Green Goblin”, has been busy wantingrevenge, and being generally evil. Attackingthe two people Spider-man cares for most,Mary-Jane and Aunt May.

New Equilibrium: Peter Parker now knows what it takes to be Spider-man and continues to be him, while being able tofinally confess his love for Mary-Jane. (and his best friend now wants him dead and blames him for the death of his Father, butthats sequel territory)

MY OPINION

When this film came out I was only 2 years old so at the time i didn’t watch it, but when i was around 8 i watched it for the first time and i still remember it to this day. Spiderman is one of my favourite movies of marvels and thats saying something because believe me i like all of them lol. This film has led to so many newer versions of this film due to the love for the movie

Don’t Breathe film review

PLOT

In Detroit, the burglars Money, Rocky and Alex plot a heist in the isolated house of a Blind Man, who received a large amount when his beloved daughter died in a car accident. They have the intention to move to California with the stolen money. They give a spiked candy to the dog and break in the house. Money gases the bedroom of the Blind Man to make him sleep and they seek where the money is hidden. Out of the blue, the Blind Man comes to the place where the trio is. There mission now is to escape without getting caught by the rather scary blind man.

NARRATIVE

With this film it is quite hard to apply it to any theory as it only has certain aspects of each. I couldn’t really apply it to Todorovs theory because there is no real equilibrium because as soon as the film starts the robbers are unhappy with the amount of money they have and want to rob the blind man for his money. I could try to apply the Blind Mans story in this to Todorovs theory:

Equilibrium: the audience sees blind man lives alone with his dog normally.

Disruption of the Equilibrium: Trio at the start decide to rob the blind man to get the money the man inherited from the death of his daughter. Then the blind man finds one of the trio and kills him

Realisation of Disruption: The blind man realises that there is more than one robber in his house but thinks that they are after the woman that he keeps locked up in his basement

Attempt to return to Equilibrium: The blind man searches his house in attempts to find the robbers and kill them

Return of Equilibrium: There is no return of Equilibrium for the blind man because he kills the woman he had locked in the basement on accident and the woman of the robbers gets away and flees to California. I guess the woman that fled got the return of her Equilibrium because she got what she desired at the beginning; to leave to California with her daughter and the money the blind man possessed.

MY OPINION

In my opinion i liked this film because of the simplicity of it but also the plot twist at the end was very intriging because all throughout the film we saw the blind man as the victim but when his secret was discovered we saw that he was more a monster than anything else.

Todorov and X-Men: Days of Future Past Equilibrium Sentinels are exterminating all mutants and any humans who dare to help them or harbor mutant genes in the future.

Disruption of equilibrium Mystique is seen by the public and mutants are revealed.

Realisation of Disruption A scientist gets funding from the president of the united states to build sentinels.

Attempt to repair damage of the Disruption Magneto tries to stop them and then finally Mystique, with the help of Charles stops him.

Return to new Equilibrium There are no more sentinels in the future, the professor still has the school.

MY OPINION

As I have said in previous blog posts, i have always loved the content that marvel has produced. This is yet another of their masterpieces. I have liked every X-Men film which has come out apart from “X-Men: Apocolypse”. But this varient of X-Men i think is one of the best because it offers great editing beause of the technology softwear avalable to us in the current generation that makes editing amazing and makes the characters abilitys seem real.

I think very highly of this movie and other reviews from companys will back my opinion up.
